Energy at KU

Welcome to your resource for energy information at the University of Kansas. KU is working to address issues of energy conservation, efficiency, and production through education, research, operations, and campus life:

Education

A number of courses offered at KU address issues of sustainability, and many students are involved in projects examining energy and climate change. Lectures and events throughout the year, many of which are open to the public, raise awareness and educate the community about energy.

Research

Research centers and institutes at KU are exploring a range of issues related to energy, including transportation, renewable energy production, and global change. Energy and sustainability research is being conducted by faculty and students in a range of disciplines including Engineering, Architecture, Education, Business, and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Operations

KU has reduced energy consumption by setting a high standard of efficiency for new construction and using performance contracts and other measures to conserve energy in existing buildings. Students helped set up a revolving green loan fund and pay a green fee that is used for additional conservation projects.

Campus Life

The KU Center for Sustainability works with students, faculty, and staff to promote conservation behaviors through their Sustainability Pledge, recognition programs other activities. Student organizations are also working to raise awareness about energy conservation and renewable energy.
